Dial the Lore is operated by ScandiHåndverk, an Illinois, USA business, through its djohnson.tech technology and development division. These Terms are an agreement between you and ScandiHåndverk (“we,” “us,” or “our”) for use of Dial the Lore. By creating an account or using the creator services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use those services.
1. Accounts and eligibility
You must have the legal capacity to enter this agreement. If you use the service for an organization, you must be authorized to bind it. Provide accurate account information, protect your credentials, and tell us promptly about suspected unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity under your account, subject to applicable law.
2. What the service provides
Dial the Lore lets creators build, preview, and publish interactive phone experiences. Features may include text-to-speech, uploaded audio, weighted responses, timed entries, and scheduled publishing. Draft edits are not live until published. A scheduled release uses a saved snapshot; later edits do not change that snapshot.
The service is for creative experiences, not emergency communications or a substitute for emergency services. Do not rely on it for urgent, safety-critical, medical, or other essential communications. Callers’ telephone or carrier charges may apply.
3. Your content and permissions
You retain your rights to the text, audio, and other content you provide. You give us a nonexclusive permission to host, store, copy, process, transmit, and play that content as needed to operate the service, including converting text to speech, serving previews, delivering calls, and retaining versions you publish. This permission also allows our service providers to perform those functions for us.
You must have all rights and permissions needed for your content, including music, recordings, voice performances, trademarks, and any personal information it contains. Do not upload confidential or sensitive personal information that the service is not designed to handle. Publishing makes content accessible to callers and anyone with its public preview link; others may save or share what they hear.
The operational permission ends when the relevant content is removed from our systems, except as needed for backups, legal obligations, or resolving existing disputes. It does not transfer ownership of your work to us.
4. Acceptable use
Use the service lawfully and respect other people’s rights. You may not use it to:
- Commit fraud, facilitate illegal conduct, harass or threaten people, distribute unlawful content, or exploit or endanger children.
- Infringe copyright, privacy, publicity, or other rights, or impersonate someone in a deceptive or unlawful way.
- Send spam, facilitate unsolicited marketing, or evade telecommunications rules or provider restrictions.
- Access another account or project without permission, expose credentials, bypass usage limits, interfere with service operation, or conduct disruptive security testing without authorization.
- Present a fictional experience as a real emergency service or use it in a way likely to cause dangerous confusion.
Fictional characters and fictional scenarios are welcome, provided you have the necessary rights and do not use them to carry out prohibited conduct. Contact hello@dialthelore.com to report content, suspected infringement, or a security concern.
5. Phone numbers, schedules, and usage
Phone numbers are assigned manually and depend on availability, provider requirements, and our approval. An assigned number is provided for use with the service; assignment does not itself give you ownership of the number or a guarantee of permanent availability or portability. Contact us before relying on a number for printed materials or a long-running campaign.
Keypad entry schedules use the dates you set, with inclusive start times and exclusive end times. Exact back-to-back entries are allowed; overlaps on the same key are rejected. Check your timezone, dates, content, and published preview before sharing an experience. Scheduling and delivery can be delayed or interrupted by technical issues or provider outages.
Usage figures and cost estimates are estimates, not invoices or guaranteed spending ceilings. Limits may not account immediately for calls already in progress, delayed callbacks, carrier charges, number rental, taxes, or other provider fees. We may limit or suspend traffic to protect the service and prevent abuse.
6. Fees and future paid services
Any paid plan, number rental, usage charge, renewal, or cancellation condition we offer will be disclosed before you agree to it. These Terms do not authorize us to charge you an undisclosed fee. Your own carrier or other third-party services may charge separately under their terms.
7. Privacy and service providers
Our Privacy Policy explains how information is handled. Creators are responsible for any privacy notices, permissions, and consents required for their content and their use of the service. The platform relies on hosting, authentication, storage, telephone, and voice providers, and their availability and restrictions affect the service.
8. Suspension, ending use, and deletion
You can stop using the service, delete individual projects, or contact us to request account closure. Deleting a project ends access to its hosted published experience. Archiving does not: the published experience continues to work. Keep a copy of content you need before deleting it.
We may restrict content, suspend an account or number, or end access when reasonably needed to address a breach of these Terms, legal or provider requirements, security risks, abuse, or discontinuation of the service. We will give reasonable notice where practicable, but urgent situations may require immediate action. Account closure and content removal are subject to the retention information in our Privacy Policy and applicable law.
9. Service limitations and liability
We work to provide a useful service, but cannot promise uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, exact delivery timing, or that every voice or feature will remain available. To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or noninfringement.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost profits or lost opportunities, arising from use of or inability to use the service. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability, consumer rights, or other protections that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
10. Changes, governing law, and contact
We may update these Terms or change the service. We will post updated Terms with an effective date and provide notice of material changes where required by law. The laws of Illinois, USA govern these Terms, without overriding mandatory protections that apply where you live. If part of these Terms is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
